With modest beginnings as a watch component manufacturer in 1963, Stelux was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1972 (Stock Code : 84). Since then the Group has transformed itself and is recognized as a leading player in the watch and optical retail and wholesale sectors. The brands operated by the Group, like City Chain, Optical 88 and Seiko are instantly recognizable and well entrenched in many of the regions where we operate.
In 1985, Stelux established City Chain in Hong Kong creating a totally innovative watch retailing culture. Targeting middle-income consumers, City Chain, introduced multi-branded contemporary lifestyle watches with a fixed price policy under a single watch retail store fundamentally changing watch retailing from the traditional department store counter. This business has grown from strength to strength with over 300 stores in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Mainland China. Our stores carry a myriad of trend setting brands from agency brands to our own house brands, including our own well-known Titus. In 2002, City Chain was named a "Hong Kong Superbrand".
In 1988, Stelux acquired an up and coming optical business, Optical 88 in Hong Kong subsequently extending this business to Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Mainland China focusing on the mid-tier to upper mid-tier markets. Often raising the bar to be at the forefront of the industry, Optical 88 offers quality eye-care and after sales services. Operating from over 200 stores, customers select products from a spectrum of well-known brands. Both agency brands and house brands are available. Optical 88 was named a "Hong Kong Superbrand" in 2009.
The Thong Sia Group with a long established business in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia as the sole and exclusive distributor for Seiko watches and clocks was acquired in 2005 to complement Stelux' watch retail business.
